The concomitant use of cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6)–metabolized opioids and antidepressants is common among older nursing home residents. A new study strongly warns against it, however, noting that the practice leads to worsening pain, opioid-use disorder, and more emergency department visits and hospitalizations.
