Monitoring Prescribing of DOACs After Initial Prescription

One of the selling points for direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) over older anticoagulants, such as warfarin, is that they require less monitoring. While that is generally true, according to authors of a new study, adverse events such as under- or over-prescribing of DOACs can be risky and usually occur after the initial prescription.
